Yesterday was such a crazy day here in North Carolina. If you follow me on twitter, you definitely know what I’m talking about because from about 5:30 till about 9pm my twitter feed was all about taking shelter and issuing warnings for the tornadic weather we were experiencing. Here in NC we know to expect tornadoes when conditions are favorable, but honestly, we’re pretty complacent about it. I mean, we’re not in tornado alley…we usually will get a tornado watch when we have a series of bad thunderstorms…but yesterday wasn’t a watch, it was warnings, and it was serious. Tornadoes touched down, several at a time, not too far from us. It was very scary. Thankfully, we had no damage, we kept our power, and my mom made it home safe from Brianna’s birthday party. They’re saying that this is historic as far as this type of tornadic activity in our state. There was a Lowe’s that was destroyed in the Raleigh area, thankfully nobody was killed there, they were all able to seek shelter, and where they found shelter was the only part of the building left standing. There were unfortunately some fatalities around the state and that’s very sad to hear. All in all most of NC took the storm threats seriously and were able to take shelter when necessary. I for one have never sat and watched weather radar for that many hours straight. I tweeted on twitter and posted on facebook. I’m not usually the kind to do that, but I know that a lot of people don’t watch the regular network news channels. My DH was pissed that they stopped covering the NBA playoffs. I’m like be serious…this is not a joke! I have never taken cover before until yesterday. I brought me and the kids into the bathroom and let the DH fend for himself. I had to chew him out about that after the kids were in the bed…I didn’t like that he wasn’t on a heightened sense of alert ya know? The newscasters and meteorologists were saying how historic this was for our area…like we haven’t had anything close to this amount of tornadoes touching down in over 25 years.
All I know is that I’m very thankful that we’re safe and that many people are safe this morning. I’m thankful my mom made it back home safely travelling from our house. Angels were truly around us.
