The hardest thing about Black Friday shopping is running on fumes. Like honestly, I need a day’s worth of sleep! I conquered Walmart this year. Haven’t gone to Walmart for Black Friday shopping since I was in high school and it actually occurred on a Friday.
With me doing these Black Friday posts for the past couple of weeks, I was pretty sure for quite some time what I was going to go out for. I really wish I had more money, but then again my experience would be a little different because I would have been trying to get big ticket items with everybody else. That’s how I feel like I do well at Black Friday is because I’m not getting the items that are those huge doorbusters. Maybe next year.
I had planned to go to Walmart this year. Target didn’t have anything that was enticing me. It would have been my last option. Once I reviewed the Best Buy ad, I knew that was where I would get my daughter’s tablet. Honestly when it came to this tablet, cost was my biggest factor. She is not old enough, mature enough or responsible enough to have a tablet that I really had to invest in. So when I saw in the ad that online only on Thanksgiving Best Buy would offer a tablet for $39.99 with free shipping. The ad didn’t specify what time it would go on sale. So after midnight I checked online…price wasn’t marked down. It’s originally $100. I woke up a little after 6am on Thanksgiving and with one eye open, I refreshed my screen and it was updated to $39.99 so I scooped it up! Whew! Main item has been taken care of.
My Mother moved up dinner this year upon my request for Black Friday. We normally eat at 5 or so and lounge around for a few hours. That’s fine if Black Friday was midnight or actually on Friday. So for me, she moved it up to 4. That helped but I was a zombie. I was sooo sleepy. So full of food. I made a cup of green tea while I was at her house reviewing my sale ads to be sure what I was going for. At this point I kept seeing visions of items in my head, but because I didn’t have my notebook with me, I had no idea what was at what store and when. Smh. I decided to just hit up Walmart and go from there. It’s not like I have a lot of money to spend and most importantly, I MUST get my hands on that McAfee Antivirus.
We left my parents house shortly after 6. I made it back home by 7:30. Dropped off the hubby and kids. Changed into a sweater and sneakers, grabbed a pocket knife (nobody’s playing) and made it to Walmart by 7:45 if not a little earlier. We have two Walmart’s now and I went to the newest one which is closest to me. Traffic wasn’t bad and neither was parking. They had the parking lot well lit and they had a lot of security which I appreciated. That was my biggest concern…not the in-store chaos, but returning to my car safely. Hence me bringing a pocket knife. I’m not cutting anybody over an antivirus and some pajamas lol.
When I first walked in, they had the grocery side doors as the entrance and the general merchandise doors as the exit. I parked on the general merchandise side. But that didn’t bother me, because I had dressed warm and that way when I did come out, I wouldn’t have far to get to my car. I walk in and navigate the crowds. I didn’t stop to see anything until I saw the antivirus. I started to realize that the items in the middle of the aisles were grouped together the way they were in the ad. So I knew I was in the right area when I saw all of these other items I recalled seeing right next to the antivirus in the ad. I went a little further and there they were! Jackpot!! They were on a display that was wrapped in plastic and that was already torn into. So I grabbed it and then I saw the pajamas I wanted to get the kids. They were in the Event 1 pricing so I was glad that not only did they have some left, they had them in my kids sizes and characters they wanted. That’s the kids Christmas Eve gift every year. At $4.50 each that’s a steal. Especially since for my daughter’s age, a sale is $14.99 smh.
At this point I have a few minutes before 8 and I figured I’d just walk around and see what else is out while I wait to checkout. I came around to the general merchandise entrance and that’s where I saw the Monster High twin bed set that I wanted to get Brianna. It was also in the Event 1 pricing and there were only two left! I grabbed it and was set! At only $24.88 for over $60 value…can’t be beat. And she’ll love it.
Right next to me was a price scanner. I decided to scan everything. Everything was scanning at the correct price. So I went ahead and checked out and was back home right after 8!
I’m not sure if I will venture out again this weekend. I was going to go to a pottery shop near my job today since I have to work. But that’s about it. I don’t generally do toys on Black Friday because they go on better and better sales each week leading up to Christmas. And I like to do a lot of online shopping and have the items sent to me at work. Besides, I get extra perks shopping online by getting cash back.
How was your Black Friday? Did you shop till you drop?
