I do believe I have broken a record with how many times I have gone to Harris Teeter this week. Today makes my 4th and final trip. This post was written on Monday 1/6/14.
Overall I would say I did okay. The first day was the highest savings but then again it was when almost everything was free. All in all I got quite a few needed items and to get them at a higher savings point makes me happy. I honestly couldn’t afford to get all that I got if it wasn’t for the Super Doubles.
Saturday 01/04/14
I almost had a temper tantrum in the vitamin aisle. I am at the store with my son in tow and low and behold my vitamins I came for are in stock. My coupon, however, is expired. It expired on 1/03/14. Only because my son was with me and I have to set a good example, I kept the tantrum to myself. Also I figured the coupons would come back out on Sunday and just would need to be patient.
I came for the vitamins, chips and medicine.
Here’s what I got:
Lay’s chips were BOGO ½ off so $2.15 each. DH was complaining about not having chips in the house…we don’t have groceries if there aren’t chips and soda at the ready.
Kikoman Soy Sauce $1.99 coupon was 55 cents and all of the lists said that it would double and the coupon did not. It did say “do not double” but dang. So $1.44 for Soy Sauce that I didn’t really need but it is good to have for some of my recipes.
Prego Alfredo Sauce wasn’t on sale but I had a coupon. $2.35 coupon was 75 cents x 2 = 85 cents
The big deal was the medicine because if you have children you know that medicine not only costs a lot but it goes quickly if both of the kiddos have the sniffles. And Idk if this only happens to me but it seems that when the kids are sick you have NO medicine for them!! So when I can grab a couple on a good buy I do.
The Triaminics were on sale for $4.99 each coupon $1 x 2 = $2.99. I had two coupons so I got a daytime and a nighttime option.
This trip I paid $13.28 saved $14.20 and saved 52%.
Monday 1/06/14
For this last trip my main goal was to get the vitamins I wanted. And to see how much I could stretch my last to do as good as I could.
Here’s what I got:
Swiffer Refills: $3.99 coupon $1 x 2 evic coupon 50 cents = $1.49
Premium Rounds on sale for $2 no coupon
McCormick Chili mix $1.45 that makes me SOOO angry!!! I hate to pay full price for a seasoning packet but I needed it since it would be quicker to make than my slow cooker packet I already have at home.
Harris Teeter canned tomatoes 3 for $2 and I went ahead and got the three
Old Orchard juice $3.29 coupon $1 x 2 = $1.29
Ground Chuck 2lbs $6.97 I needed the ground beef for the chili and it is split to be used for a second meal.
Thin pork chops were $2.78 and $2.49
Duracell batteries $4.95 coupon $1 x 2 = $2.95. A great price for batteries, would have been greater had I been able to snag the Energizers since they were on sale and I had $1 off coupons…but my buddy boy needed batteries and Mommy had promised to get them.
Nature’s Bounty Optimum Solutions Hair Skin and Nails vitamins were on sale for $8.49 (orig $16.99) coupon for $2 x 2 = $4.49!!!!
Harris Teeter brand Omega 3 fish oil was on sale for $3.24 which was less than I would have paid with coupon for the Nature’s Bounty because they had only a larger size.
I think that’s everything.
This trip I paid $32.72 saved $25.33. I saved 44%.
I’m not a fan of my savings level getting lower and lower but I have to remember that everything didn’t have a coupon and I got things I needed and wanted each trip.
At the end of the full Super Doubles I have spent a total of $83.64 and had I not couponed I would have paid $193.26 and that my friends is where you see your savings. Sure I would love to always be at an 80%+ savings but realistically that’s not always gonna happen. My goal is to save period. Half off is great, Free is even better but if I only save 44% that’s fine too because savings is savings.
I normally would not go to Harris Teeter so many times in one week but this Super Doubles Event came on the New Year when I had a depleted coupon binder and was awaiting fresh coupons in the weekend. I hope that next time I am much better prepared.
