This week I’ve been doing some early Fall decorating. I’d love to say I was already finished but the truth is I’m nowhere near finished. But that’s okay. Even though it’s a work in progress, I wanted to go ahead and share how I’ve been adding some Fall touches to our home so far.
It’s hard to believe it’s the end of August and I feel like I’ve barely gotten started. This year will probably not be as over the top as last year’s Fall decor. But it’s too soon to know for sure.
A lot of you are still enjoying all things Summer and aren’t thinking about pumpkins! You may be wondering is it too early to decorate for Fall? If you’re thinking that then you’re asking the wrong person! ha! It’s never too early to decorate for Fall if you ask me.
Decorating for Fall doesn’t have to mean pumpkins everywhere, as much as I love them. That’s why I’m sharing these early Fall decorating ideas. It’s really about bringing in the warmer colors and cozy textures. Let me show you what I mean.

I shared this picture on my Instagram and Like to Know it feed this week. I liked how my mantle came out but wanted to change it up a bit. So I found some greenery garland at Hobby Lobby and tried to use that as a base. It didn’t turn out good. So I scrapped that idea.
The jury is still out and I’m still working on my mantle. We’ll see what happens. Some of the items I used are from Hobby Lobby last year. I linked some similar finds here.
Last weekend I was in Target looking for a floor length mirror. While I was there I came across these woven striped throw pillows from the Studio McGee line. I’m so glad I saw them in person because I love the look and texture and that doesn’t come across well online.
So let me keep it real with you because the reviews online weren’t super helpful. These pillows are decorative. They’re not meant to be laid on. The insert is plush but it’s not down filled. But the pillow cover can be removed if you want to change the insert.

In my experience most textured pillows aren’t comfortable or soft. That’s not their purpose. These are softer than many of the textured pillows I’ve come across over the years.
I love the pillows and I love how much texture they add. They’re neutral but have enough color to not be boring.
Getting these pillows made me want to overhaul my current pillows for Fall. Because honestly, the pumpkin pillows I used last year are feeling very bright to me. A little too bright. I plan to either sell them or hold them for another year and then decide. I love them but they’re just too dang bright!
oversized woven striped pillow | pumpkin pillow | chunky cable knit pillow
So I decided to give the oversized version of the pillow a try. I’m still undecided on if I want to keep the oversized style or exchange them for the standard size. Or go in a different direction. I don’t want to be too matchy-matchy. I have such a hang up when it comes to larger pillows, I don’t know why.
The pumpkin pillow I found in store when I purchased the first set of pillows. I love the stitching on it. They have a few versions this year for Fall.
The chunky cable knit pillow I ordered and it’s a perfect dupe for the Pottery Barn handknit pillows. They come in an oversized pillow and a lumbar option too. I got the standard size.
I found these gorgeous stems at Hobby Lobby and I knew they’d be perfect over my sign. They’re a little pricey but they make such a statement. I still need to fluff them to cover the middle but if you can find them in your local store buy them!
Last year I wanted them after seeing them in other people’s decor and they were already sold out. When I purchased mine last week my store was already down to a few left in stock.
Most of my space hasn’t been decorated but I did create this little vignette on my side table. Most of these items aren’t available this year but my trusty clear vase from World Market is. It’s such an affordable find! I used a few stems I got from Target last year.
It may be the only space that I can consider being complete at this point. That’s okay. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
These stems I got several of last year at Target. As of now they haven’t been brought back. Target’s Fall decor usually starts to really hit the stores around mid-September, which is late in my book. But I didn’t like them in the vase I had them in last year. So I decided to give them a try in my blue and white ginger jar and I love it!
The colors work so well together and then I realized of course they do, they’re my high school colors! Blue and Gold always go together 🙂
And that my friends is what I’ve done so far for my early Fall decorating. A whole lot of nothing. I am missing one or two of my Fall bins that I think got stored away with some Christmas bins. So I need to see if I can find them so I can go ahead and finish decorating.
I want to enjoy my Fall decor being completed for as long as I can. I don’t want to be in limbo. Hopefully I can get all of my Fall decorating finished by Labor Day. That’s the plan anyway ♥
TARGET FALL PILLOWS
I think textured pillows are mainly for decorations. They can be used also to complement other colors in a room. Depending on the fill type, textured pillows can be used comfortable for sleep on a bed or couch.
Thanks for the lovely pictures and ideas for room decor. it is inspiring.
