Next week is Brianna’s first day of kindergarten (as in the following week, not the current week). It’s a pretty big step that I think I’m finally getting ready for. All morning I’ve been on the School Board website trying to find out the ins and outs of everything. Personally I feel like, I need a little hand holding here. I mean this is my first time going thru this process too. I feel like the information that I needed a couple of weeks ago is just now being posted on their website. So now that it is, I’m trying to get everything in order.
First area of concern…riding the bus. I rode the bus since the very beginning. But I also started school in Germany and it was a military base. So yeah I was riding with highschoolers, but I don’t remember being afraid or anything. I was planning on taking Brianna to school in the mornings, but now that they just posted the bus schedule, I’m second thinking that. School starts at 8:05. If she rides the bus, the bus would pick her up at 7:56. We don’t live far from the school…I’m thinking that it might be easier for her to ride the bus, since I will have to take Jordan with us if we drop her off…I’m still contemplating that. She’s not going to the school I want her to go to. Unfortunately we don’t live in that district right now…so the plan before was to let her go to the school’s afterschool program. The school she’ll be going to doesn’t offer one. And the school is pretty far in relation to her daycare. Daycare offers afterschool pickup, but they won’t go out that far unless there’s enough kids out there. So she’ll be riding the bus home to my hubby’s grandmother’s house, which is a few houses down from us, stay there until either he gets off or my MIL gets off work to pick her up.
The next area of concern is lunch. The price of lunch has definitely increased in the 10 years I’ve been out of school! It used to be $1.10 now it’s $2.00!!! That’s ridiculous! So I think we’ll be mainly packing lunches. The problem is she is a picky eater. But I think we can make it work, and at least that way I know that what she’s taking is somewhat healthy. Looks like I need to work on my lunch-making skills.
Those are my two main areas of concern at the moment. They scheduled the open house 2 days before school starts. I’m not a fan of that because neither me nor the hubby can go because I’ll be working, he’ll be in school. So we’ll probably have my MIL go in our place that way Brianna can meet her teacher. I wanted to schedule a meeting with her so we could all meet, but there’s no real opportunity unless the teacher is willing to meet us after I get off work 🙁
It’s definitely going to take some adjustments. School starts at the time that we would usually be leaving for daycare. So sleep adjustments, getting used to making breakfast for her earlier in the morning, and trying to adjust without having to involve Jordan much…it’s all going to be very eventful to say the least!
