It’s One of the Best Times. It’s that time of the year when the air starts to turn ever so slightly. Summer isn’t quite over and fall hasn’t yet arrived.
It’s back to school!!!!!
I tell ya, it never gets old. I love back to school time. Even more this year.
For starters, this was a rough summer. Going into the summer I knew it was gonna be pretty tight. Work is slow at my job, not many opportunities for overtime. The additional expense of summer camp. The additional expenses of extra trips for summer camp. The gas I spend left and right for summer camp. I mean, it’s really taken a toll. So I am counting down…two more days to go and we’re back to school.
I work a later schedule than I did when Bri was in school last year. That sucks. But it sucks even more because this summer has been difficult for me to get on track in any kind of way. My day would be, wake up around 7 (meaning shut off my alarm and turn on the tv) and I would doze until the local news break for Good Morning America. Then I would get up to see if Bri has gotten up on her own. If not, I’d get her up around 7:30ish. The goal was to leave between 7:45-8:00 in order to get her to camp early enough so that she can eat breakfast there by the 8:30 cut off. Then I would go home with lil man, get him his breakfast, do some reading with him, and sometimes I would doze off and sometimes I would do chores. Then to go to work and get off late and start the process all over again.
With school starting back, yes I have to wake up even earlier…but I won’t have to get up and drive across town to the camp that was perfect for us when I worked a regular schedule. I won’t have to keep wasting gas driving to the same side of town I work on twice in a day. I can allow lil man to sleep while I force myself to get back to my AM grind. And maybe the most important thing of all… I won’t have to shell out that weekly expense!!! WOOP WOOP!!! And she goes to a camp that is reasonably priced too. But it’s still extra money coming out of my pocket. I’ll be so glad to see it stay in my pocket.
With this being the last week of camp, I’ve been trying to wake up a tad earlier each day, both to get myself used to it and Bri. I hoped to have started back with my workouts by now, but honestly I’ve just been too exhausted and too lazy on top of that. But I have a plan. I personally can’t stand to be on the last minutes of my sleep for me to be woken up by DH getting ready for work. This summer hasn’t been too bad with that, but in the school year I have to wake up earlier or the same time as him, so that he doesn’t work my nerves. So my plan is to wake up at 6am and do my 20 minute Pilates. It will benefit me both physically and mentally, but also it helps get my blood flowing in a gentle way. I’ll then get Bri up, fed and ready for the bus. Once she’s on the bus, I’ll do my cardio or strength training, depending on my workout schedule. Then when lil man is up and fed, I’ll work on some activities with him. (poor thing turns 5 in November so he has to wait till next year to go to Kindergarten.) I’ll also do some housework during this time. (no time to go back to sleep) At work I have found myself getting extremely sleepy and I know that’s due to my lack of workouts as of late. But when I workout at work, it seems to give me a boost of energy, so I will be getting to that as my schedule allows.
I’m honestly looking forward to back to school more than she is. It’s truly one of the best times of the year! J
