Summer is officially binge watching season! Here’s what I’m binge watching this summer.
It’s officially Summer!!! I’m looking forward to a lot of fun this summer. Going to the beach, maybe an amusement park, but especially binge watching. I shared recently about how I love to read books during the summer. It’s also the best time for me to binge watch a few shows. Today I’m going to share not only the shows I’ll be watching this summer but also shows I recommend. Let’s talk what I’m binge watching this summer.
I decided to write this post after talking with my friend about tv shows. We’ve given each other our own “must watch” lists. She’s watched a few on mine and I’ve watched a few on hers.

Shows I’m Binge Watching
Let’s talk about what I’m watching first.
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK: I know I know. I’m way late to the party. But that’s how I am sometimes. I’m one episode in as of me writing this post and so far I must say, I’m intrigued. I want to know more. And that’s how I am when it comes to watching a new show. Does the first episode make me want to know more? Sometimes the answer is no, and if it is, I may or may not decide to give it a second chance. My first instinct is usually right.
HOUSE OF CARDS: this is another show that I have always wanted to watch and just haven’t had the time to invest. I think the time is now and I’m excited to dive in. I love political dramas.
BEING MARY JANE: I must say I miss this show. I don’t have satellite tv and a few years ago Viacom left my cable provider. So all of those networks that my family love are gone. Usually when cable providers and tv conglomerates dispute over their contracts, if it comes down to them leaving the cable provider they’re usually back in a few weeks or months. Not these two. So BET, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon… just to name a few are gone. Which not only impacts my ability to watch my rachet tv shows, but I can’t see Being Mary Jane. Anyway, thankfully I have the Amazon Firestick and I’m able to watch some of the shows I miss out on thanks to that situation. I have to start at the beginning to get caught up, because it’s been that long, but I love Being Mary Jane and I know a new season starts back up soon so I really want to be able to get caught up.
I love Netflix but the Amazon Firestick has been a life saver.
Shows I Recommend for Binge Watching
This is a super easy list for me to make for you. I can’t wait for you to see these shows if you haven’t already. Trust me on this. 🙂
THE GOOD WIFE: Okay Okay Okay!!! This is what I binged last summer. I was engrossed. I couldn’t not watch it. I started pretty soon after all of my main Fall and Spring shows were off. I watched it just about nightly all the way through August. Seven seasons. I love the show so much I want to watch it again. But I have to remind myself to watch something new.
SEX AND THE CITY: This is on my list because my friend hadn’t seen the real versions of SATC. You know, the HBO ones not the watered down TBS ones. I love SATC and I used to watch it very often when my kids were younger and I could get away with it! 😉 I’ve watched it since college and I have all of the seasons on dvd. No that doesn’t mean you can borrow it from me, but if you have never really watched them in order, I highly suggest you do. I can relate almost everything to an episode of Sex and the City. Same with The Cosby Show. I just can. It’s a gift really 🙂
SCANDAL: You may be someone who has never watched Scandal. I get it. I’m not one to watch hyped up shows either at first. I was like that with Scandal. I didn’t start watching until season two was about to begin. Scandal was on Netflix and from the first episode I watched and watched and watched. I love Scandal. I’m so sad it’s about to be over. But before the final season, if you haven’t watched, now’s the perfect time to start!
MAD MEN: I don’t know what it is about this show, I can’t quite put my finger on it. I love this show. I started watching it when it would come on early Sunday mornings on AMC. I liked it instantly. So I started from the beginning on Netflix and I was hooked and a regular viewer until the end of the series on tv. The story of Don Draper is intriguing and you just want to find out why he is the way he is.
Shows I’ve tried and can’t
For fun let’s take a look at a few shows I’ve tried lately that I just cannot watch. Or aren’t interesting enough for me to want to continue.
THE WALKING DEAD: You see, I know me. I know what I like and what I don’t. I know that I’m not into gore and zombies and ewwww. It’s just not me. I’m sorry. I couldn’t. I know a lot of people who do but I can’t be part of that crowd.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER: Sorry Viola and Shonda I couldn’t get into this. I tried, I really did. It just wasn’t for me.
REVENGE: I had more than one person suggest that I watch this show. I watched an episode. I don’t think I’ll be watching anymore. I felt that it was pretty predictable. Maybe I’ll give it another chance but I highly doubt it.
So there you have it! I hope you watch the shows I recommend. I’d love to hear your thoughts on them. On any of the shows listed, good or bad. Comments are always a great idea! 😉
I want to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day!!! Believe it or not, this post was supposed to go up mid June. I need to get my blog life back on track. Part of what happens when you are binge watching and doing a lot of summer reading, oh and working.
