I was going to wash my hair but got lazy and decided to do a makeup look instead. I’m calling this makeup look a Midnight’s Dream.
I haven’t played with my makeup in awhile so I chose to create a nightime look using my NYX eyeshadow palette in Haute Model. It is one of their newer palettes and I purchased it because of all the pretty sparkly colors. It is definitely a glamming up kind of palette!
I have sampled this palette but haven’t really played with it until today. So far my only complaint, which you will see in the pics is that there was creasing. I am not sure if it’s the shadow or the brush I used.
None of my other NYX shadows crease so it may be the fact that I used an angled shadow brush instead of my usual shader brush. I didn’t want to get the dark shadow on my flat shader brush since I will use it tomorrow and know I’m not washing my brushes tonight.
Anyway, enough rambling… I have had quite a few readers tell me they want some how-to’s for makeup, so I will tell you how I achieved this look.

The colors I used are the bottom left blue and next to the last blue on the bottom. I used the light pink on the top row for my inner highlight.
*apply Urban Decay Primer Potion and spread over eyelid up to browbone if you will use a highlight using your finger.
*use an eyeshadow base when you want your colors to pop. You can use an eyeshadow base such as NYX eyeshadow base, MAC paintpots, concealer or NYX jumbo eye pencils like I did. I used Pacific (a blue, but not a dark blue) because it’s what I have, but I would have used a darker blue or even the color Black Bean, which is a black base I want to get. Apply the jumbo eye pencil – a little goes a long way, and spread with finger.
*take a flat shadow brush in the lighter of the dark blues and apply on the middle of your lid. Pack the color, not sweep, to prevent fallout.
*take an angled shadow brush and create a V on the outer corner of your eye using the darker blue shadow and fill in.
*take a short flat shadow brush and the darker blue to apply a thin line of shadow on the lower lash line. I did the outer 2/3 of my eye.
*using a clean blending brush go around the crease of your eye softly to blend out the harsh lines.I didn’t do a brow highlight, if you will or if I was, I would take a soft brown eyeshadow color that’s close to my skintone to kind of marry the space between my crease and my brow.
*take a small pencil brush into the light pink or any shimmery light color and apply to the inner corner of your eye.
*apply a cream or liquid eyeliner. I applied my cream eyeliner with a stiff angled brush.
*the mascara I used comes with a primer to help plump up my lashes. This look needs bold lashes and if I was going out I would wear falsies.
Face:
Because I’m not going anywhere my coverage is minimal. I just dabbed a few spots with concealer and applied my powder foundation all over.
I am fairly new I’d say to contouring, but since I’ve started I pretty much do it daily. I’m experimenting with the different brushes I already have and lately have settled on my Bare Minerals Handy Buki Brush. I contour my cheeks, my temples and under my jaw bone. Next I applied a combination of both blushes in the palette with a duo-fiber brush. Last I took a basic powder blush and did a quick highlight on my cheek bones.
Lips:
Lips are usually an afterthought for me, and that’s because I have a hard time finding good colors for me. I did a quick sweep of color with my MAC Capricious lipstick. I topped it with my favorite lipgloss which is NYX megashine in Tea Rose and a quick dab of Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy in the center of my lower lip. And voila! There’s my finished look.
Please disregard the hair! Like I said, I was going to wash it and decided to do makeup instead. It was getting late and I didn’t wanna bother with my hair…I should have put a wig on prior to taking pics, but oh well! I hope you enjoyed this look and post! (I was trying different modes on my camera, so that’s why different lighting)
SN: I have to start experimenting with shaping my eyebrows. My eyebrows are only perfect when they’re freshly waxed, otherwise, they appear bushy. So we’ll see how that goes…
