Last weekend I looked over at the pile of shoes and basketballs and other junk piled up in the corner of my entryway. It was then and there that I decided I need to find either a small entryway table or a small entryway bench to straighten up the space. I scoured the web for a few hours searching for the right piece with the right dimensions to fit our needs. I’m sharing the small entryway tables and benches that I’ve found and narrowed down with you.
Technically, it’s not an entryway. It’s the little landing at the end of our stairs where things accumulate. It drives me crazy!

You may recall that when we were in our townhouse I was looking for something similar to fix the same problem.
My entryway table that we currently have works perfectly in the space we have it. It’s too large for the small landing of our staircase.
Let’s talk about what I’m looking for specifically:
- a piece that is not larger than 40″ long
- it can’t be too deep and it can’t be too shallow (yeah that’s real specific)
- it needs to be able to accommodate my husband’s work boots
- can be either a console table or a bench
- it needs to look nice
SMALL ENTRYWAY BENCH
My first thought was it would be nice to have a cute little farmhouse bench that I can tuck my husband’s work boots and my house slippers under. A bench would also allow a place to sit down and take off your shoes and I could add a little pillow or throw to. Because you know I have plenty of those 🙂
I’ve always been drawn to a farmhouse bench like this and considered buying one back before I got our accent chairs in our living room. Unfortunately I haven’t been successful in finding a small one for our stair landing. Maybe in our next home I’ll have the space for it.
The biggest issue I found when searching for an entryway bench was finding one with the right height for storage. Again, it’s because of my husband’s work boots. He has a standard pair and a second pair that are really high/tall. There were lots of options that had a good amount of storage for shoes but then they didn’t have enough space for his.
In my mind a bench is a good idea simply because it’s not a table. The jury is still out. If we do get a bench, this upholstered bench is the front runner. It has the right dimensions, can accommodate the size of my husband’s boots and is visually appealing.
French upholstered bench | flip top storage bench | upholstered shelves storage bench | Florian wood storage bench | upholstered bench | ivory wood entryway bench | wood shelves storage bench | Castagna wood storage bench | 3 tier shoe bench | Falone solid wood bench
These are some really great options, many of them are affordable at under $60. If it wasn’t for those dang boots! You can easily check any of these options out below. Scroll to see them all.
SMALL ENTRYWAY TABLES
There aren’t a ton of options for smaller entryway benches, so next I started looking at entryway tables. The thing is, I don’t want to get another table just like the one that I already have. If we go the table route, I’d prefer it to not have drawers.
That’s actually not the easiest to find when I’m working with such small dimensions. I’ve found a few options, some with drawers and some without.
Krantz console table | Mateo console table | Sanford console table | Regan console table | Reed console table | Rosas console table | Hadensen console table | Wrenshall console table | Abigail console table

The plus side of getting an entryway table is I can add a lamp (I’d just move the one from our existing entryway table) or some other decor to the top of the table.
My front runner for a small entryway table is the Mateo console table from Pottery Barn. I like the look of it and the dimensions. It’s more than I’d like to spend, but I’d be willing to save up for it.
Now that I’ve laid out all of my options and what I’m looking for, I should also say that at the end of the day I could very well not get anything for this space. But if I do, I’ll let you know. As with anything that I purchase for my home, I try to find items that can work in our current space and beyond.
A small console table or entryway bench may not be needed in our future home, but they can be used in other ways. A console table can be used in a landing or a hallway, in a bedroom or a bathroom. A bench may not be as versatile, but I think it can work in a bedroom too even though it’s smaller.
We’ll see how it goes. As my husband would say, I’m just looking for a reason to buy something. Which isn’t really true. I noticed this space bothering me and then my wheels in my head started spinning and on top of spending more hours than I’d like to count looking for the perfect piece, I just so happen to be sharing it with you. See how my mind works?
It’s definitely not super high on my priority list (still need nightstands and the bonus room could be used for more than just storage) but because I see it every day, it’s at the forefront of my mind.
I’ll keep you posted on whatever decision I make, whenever that ends up being 🙂
