Today Walmart launched their Pre Black Friday sale in stores and online. They’re offering a select amount of items in their efforts to beat Toy’s R Us, at Toy’s R Us Black Friday pricing. Since Toys ‘R Us is opening earlier than Walmart on Black Friday, I guess this is Walmart’s way at fighting dirty. By this point of my writing this post, I’m sure everything advertised is gone. I was just online thinking of getting a tablet and it was still available, so there may still be some limited availability online.
I posted about this sale yesterday on my Facebook page and I found out about it earlier in the week but didn’t have an ad to support it so I didn’t want to go off of a rumor. The sale started at 8am and I got to Walmart at 8:10. I expected the special sale items to be in the front Christmas toy section, but they weren’t. I went to the toy section and saw another Mom was on the hunt for the same thing. The big ticket item was the Leap Frog LeapPad tablet for $39.99. It’s last year’s Leap Pad tablet. Retails for $79.99. This year’s Leap Pad tablet is $149.99. They had all the compatible games marked with the special pricing. I was looking really hard and realized that they have the tag for the tablet marked but no tablets whatsoever. They had a few Leap Frog Explorer GS’s sale priced for $29.99. It’s cool too and I know Jordan will love it, but it’s not what I was trying to get.
Sorry I couldn’t get better pictures from Walmart.com
We had associates looking into it. They scanned their inventory and said they don’t have any and didn’t have any to begin with. Say what??? We wanted to know if the other Walmart in our city had it and they had to check. I even called the other Walmart and after about 10 minutes the lady came back to me to say they had just sold out. I thanked her for her time because I could tell she was out of breath when she came back to the line. I go ahead and put the Explorer GS in my cart to be safe. We’re being told that the associate who was helping us was on a trailer in the back of the store trying to see if they had any at all. The crowd has grown.
By this point it’s past 8:30 and I had an appointment to drop off my car at 8:30 and have my husband pick me up. This was throwing everything off and I was getting frustrated. Finally after five more minutes, I picked out a game to go with the system (compatible with both which is great if we upgrade) and told the fellow shoppers I must bow out and good luck! lol I had to grab something from the grocery side and on the way saw a great Monster High body pillow Brianna would love. Picked it up, got the other thing I needed and headed to check out.
It was a super frustrating experience to say the least. This is why I generally stick to shopping online during the holidays. I just don’t like the false advertising. And they should have been prepared. The bright side is that I got something Jordan will love regardless. I mean it’s a really cool toy! I also appreciate that the other shoppers weren’t acting a fool. You know how the holidays will bring it out of you and I like that we all had good behavior. Nobody snapped or had to go off on anybody, at least, not while I was still there! Who knows what happened and how long they waited for an answer. Smh…and I’m trying to think long and hard about where will I be shopping for Black Friday. Walmart is the top of my list but I need to start praying for some patience for sure!
ARE YOU READY FOR BLACK FRIDAY MADNESS???
