Each time that I walk into a store I have my eyes on the lookout for a couple of things…1) anything that is useful in organizing my coupons and 2)anything useful in organizing my makeup. I found an item for each during a recent trip to Office Depot. I would post pics, but frankly don’t wanna have to take the pics and then upload at the moment…once I get everything I need I will probably do another post on how I organize my coupons.
Lately, I have been slack on my coupon game. The biggest rush is getting a great coupon for a product you actually purchase regularly. Then it sucks when you have said coupon and one of the following has occurred:
- it expires
- you lose it
- you forget it
Well lately, all of these have been the case for me. And it really sucks. So for the past several weeks I’ve been getting newspapers, taking out the coupons, but not always clipping them, and then all I end up doing is creating clutter. I’m tired of clutter! So now I’m in an organizing mode (is it because Spring is coming?) and I really need to get so many areas of my life on track. One of them being my coupons. Let’s face it, saving money is important to us all, but this way of saving shouldn’t cause additional stress. And if you have everything in order, it won’t be something to stress about.
First you have to decide how do you want to organize your coupons. That’s gonna be different for each person and personality type! I suggest checking out some savings blogs or checking out some youtube vids that will give you some ideas, and try not to get confused! What I decided is best for me, is to get a few coupon organizers (they would fit in a large pocketbook and they’re the expandable kind) and have different ones for different types of purchases. So for example, I purchased one, and I got the tabs that you can stick to folders or whatever, and I made it basically like a drugstore set. So inside are the coupons for my makeup brands, for deadorants, oral care, feminine care, lotions, soaps, you get the drift. I will have another one for household items, like detergents, toilet paper, etc and then will get two more for groceries. That way each time I go shopping, if I’m only going to CVS for example I wouldn’t need to take my grocery set, I would take the set that had mainly drugstore items.
The plan is that every two weeks or so, or maybe each week as I clip coupons, I go thru each of the categories, and as I’m adding new coupons, I’m clearing out the expired, or if they’re about to expire then I need to go ahead and use them!
I know a lot of my readers and friends are young moms, and as moms we have so much we’re trying to juggle. Let’s make juggling your finances a little bit easier with the help of coupon ideas and strategies. As I learn I will share with you! With gas going up looks like everytime you blink, we can’t take this lightly. So get your scissors out, get two Sunday papers a week, and let’s get to saving!
