When it comes to drugstores, CVS is my go to for great deals for so many items. But when it comes to supplementing my grocery store shopping, I go to Walgreens more. Walgreens has great prices on basics like milk, eggs and sugar. The key is to know the sale rotation. But let me start from the beginning…
Walgreens has adopted a rewards system. You get the rewards card and put it on your key ring. If you get prescriptions filled at Walgreens you get 500 points each refill. They are my pharmacy even though I don’t have regular prescriptions. I ended up earning a lot of points with them last year during my tooth ordeal and hadn’t even realized it.
Walgreens has in-store coupon books and the coupons can be used multiple times in the month. They can be combined with manufacturer’s coupons.
You will find many offers in the weekly ad for ways to earn additional rewards points. Once you earn 5000 points it can be redeemed for $5 towards your next purchase. There are higher levels also, like $10, $20 etc. Get all of that info here.
The main things I go to Walgreens for are the basics like I stated above. This week milk was on sale for $2.99. Usually that means next week eggs will be $0.99. And it goes back and forth like that. This works out for me because it seems to coincide with when those items are not on sale at Harris Teeter or Food Lion. Walgreens is literally on the corner for me, so it makes it super convenient for a quick run if I realize I’m out of sugar or if I’m on my way home from work and don’t have milk for the morning. I also like that Walgreen’s carries Maola milk and it has a large shelf life. When milk is on a great deal at Harris Teeter I would love to get 2 but I don’t because the expiration date is usually only a week out. We drink milk, but not like that.
This week Folger’s coffee was on sale for $2.99 which is great because that’s better than Walmart’s price and it wasn’t on sale at Harris Teeter. And this week Walgreen’s had the best deal for Mountain Dew’s at 4 for $10.
I was surprised when I looked at my receipt and realized that the soda purchase earned me 2000 points. Also with this trip I earned $0.50 for the milk purchase thru Ibotta. I swear I love that app 🙂 If you still haven’t checked it out, then click here.
I saved 44% according to my calculations. The receipt says I saved 46% but I think it includes with the points earned. Savings is savings!
Keep in mind that because Walgreens is a drugstore, their sale prices run from Sunday to Saturday.
