There are so many aspects of our townhome that I love. One of them is our entryway. It’s nothing too fancy but the fact that we have one makes me so happy! I’m trying to come up with some entryway organization ideas to help make the most out of this space.
In our previous apartments you walk in from the front door and you’re in the living room. I’ve always hated that. I like having a bit of separation.
Our entryway is pretty simple. Front door, a walkway space and a coat closet.

I have a few problems I want to solve in this space:
– Mail holder/sorter – we need a space to hold our mail and preferably our keys. For the mail it tends to end up on the kitchen counter and I’m not a fan of that. For the keys we all have keys now and I like to keep them all corralled in the same space.
– Boot tray – especially for rainy/snowy days we need a place to put wet or messy shoes. We don’t have a no shoes in the house rule but if the shoes are messy then take them off here.
– Console table – a simple entryway table to set things down. Anything that keeps items from piling up on the kitchen counter. As a bonus I’d like to use it to add a few decorative pieces.
Before I share some of the items I’ve had my eye on let me show you what our entryway currently looks like:
{door mat}
Here’s our front door. You can see on the left I put up a couple of command hooks to hold our keys. Which was fine when it just me and DH needing to put our keys up. But now both the kids have a key too so I think a key holder would work better. The doormat is from Lowe’s and there’s an ECU Pirates folding camper chair behind the door for the moment. I think a mail holder/key rack combination would work well on the wall on the right of this picture.
We’re currently using an old microwave cart to hold a few shoes. Our microwave is built-in in our kitchen so we gave away our microwave and once I get a shoe organizer/boot rack and an entryway table then I’ll pass this microwave cart on to Goodwill. Next to it is an umbrella that I don’t think works well anymore and a couple of coolers we need to find a home for.
To round out the entryway is the coat closet. Which is currently holding coats, Christmas decor and brooms/cleaning supplies. I’ll be transferring items into our outdoor storage closet soon. Anything that’s in the closet now that’s not coat related was put there during the move just to get them out of boxes and out of the living space.
Now you can see what space I’m working with. Not a ton of space but definitely more than we’ve had before and is certainly adequate for us. Let’s look at some of the things I’ve been looking at to organize the entryway.
Mail Holder/Key Rack
My top priority to our organized entryway is to get a mail holder and key rack. I need mail off of the counters! I’ve found a few that have caught my eye.
I like that this is a simple option to hold mail and keys. I’m not sure if I like the design or if I’d prefer something with cleaner lines…
This mail holder has cleaner lines and I like the simplicity of it. It doesn’t need to be too fancy you know?
{magazine holder and key rack}
This magazine holder is something I’m leaning more towards because it allows room for magazines and larger mail pieces. What do you think? I think this one is a top contender.
This mail organizer option is on my radar because it has three tiers. I like that because my daughter gets mail from time to time so she can have a slot dedicated to her. Or we can categorize the mail by level of importance…if it’s in the top slot it’s something that needs to be opened right away, if it’s in the bottom slots it has less priority…I’m not sure but it’s definitely an option.
Boot Tray
This boot tray is simple and functional. My husband has work boots that can get pretty messy so I want them to have a place to live everyday. Plus when it’s nasty outside this works perfectly to keep our shoes at the door and not tracked through the house. I’ve also seen this mat used under dog bowls to help contain any messes. Great idea.
Entryway Tables
What I like about this entryway table is that it’s a console table so it doesn’t take up too much space width-wise. The drawers are great to put things away that you may need in the entryway. On the bottom shelf I think a couple of nice woven baskets would look great here. I think especially during the colder months, those baskets can hold scarves, toboggans and gloves.
This simple entryway table is a nice option because it’s simple. And sometimes simple is better. I would still put a couple of storage baskets on the lower shelf, and just like pictured, it’s a great way to add some decor to this space.
These are just a few of the ideas I have swirling around in my mind to have an organized entryway. Let me know if you have any suggestions that can help. I am going to see if my husband has any input on the mail holder/organizers so I can get one ordered sooner rather than later. And the boot tray is in my cart just waiting for me to pull the trigger. I hope you have a great weekend friends! It’s the last weekend of the Triangle Parade of Homes and we have family coming over to visit so we’ll be a tad busy over here 🙂
