FAVORITE JEANS
During the holidays I got a seasonal part time job at Old Navy. I figured I could use the extra money for Christmas shopping and the discount didn’t hurt. I have always liked Old Navy but more for the kids clothes than for mine. Now that Brianna is in juniors sizing I don’t shop for her as much at Old Navy, although she can wear their women’s sizes. I prefer to shop for her at Kohl’s and JCPenny.
With Jordan I really love Old Navy for his clothes. I’ve shared before that I love their Karate jeans for him. They have stretch in them and they’re flexible for boys. A couple of years ago Jordan hated wearing jeans. Absolutely hated them. Once I discovered the Karate jeans he really likes to wear them. Now he loves the Karate jeans, joggers and athletic pants, like warm ups. Basically anything that’s comfortable.
DH also likes Old Navy for jeans and some shirts but mostly jeans. But when it came to me, I was never a fan of Old Navy jeans for my body. I always felt that I had to size up one or two sizes their and that never felt good for my ego. Of course I know that every brand is different but I just felt like their jeans were cut for someone who didn’t have much hip or thighs. I have plenty of both! Even when I’m a smaller size.
So when I started working there over the holidays I learned more about their jeans. (I’m focusing on jeans because tops weren’t the issue with them, I could always find a top or sweater or cardigan that would fit) I’m sure you’ve heard of their Rockstar jeans. I tried on a couple of pairs one day when my tried and true jeans were getting too snug. I was surprised at the fit and the flex in the jeans. Not too stretchy that they become baggy. And they retained their shape. Because I had the discount I bought a couple of pairs. Now I’m a believer! Even though I’m still a size or two bigger with them (grrr) I’ll take that for jeans that fit me well and don’t cost too much!
Insider tip: Rockstar jeans are always displayed near the front of the store, but usually on the denim wall, there’s a section of Rockstar jeans that up to $10 less than the other display. That worked great for me because I was looking for jeans to wear to work on Casual Fridays. But my job doesn’t let us wear the ripped ones that are trendy. The Rockstars on the denim wall usually aren’t ripped and it was easy to find pairs that I could wear to work! Win-win!!
FAVORITE ALBUM
{source}
I am an Ariana Grande fan. A fan of her music anyway. I listen to all kinds of music but I’ve been listening to my Ariana playlist for months when I wanted to listen to anything other than gospel music…or Beyonce. So when I saw her new album, Thank You Next had dropped I decided to give it a listen. And I LOVE it! Most of her albums before I would like a few songs only but I actually like every song on the album! If you like Ariana Grande and haven’t listened to the album, I think you’ll like it too. If I had to choose my favorite songs from Thank You Next they’d be Imagine, Ghostin and 7 Rings…but again, I like every. single. song.
FAVORITE SHOW
{source}
You know I love a good period drama. My friend recommended the show Poldark to me. She told me about it a couple of months ago and I hadn’t gotten around to watching it. Earlier this month I said let me just give it a try. It’s on Amazon Prime and it’s a Masterpiece Theater and BBC show (can’t go wrong there!). I was immediately hooked!
The show is set in Cornwall after the Revolutionary War. And it’s about Ross Poldark and after the war trying to get his life back together (in a nutshell). It’s a love story. It’s a drama. It’s sooo good! It’s hard to summarize the whole series for you but I will tell you what my friend told me…she said I’d be hooked by the second or third episode. I was hooked from the first episode! I definitely recommend the show! And the main character is definitely worth watching! He’s quite handsome : )
I finished season 4 earlier this week and I am devastated that I have to wait until the fall to watch the 5th and final season. Seriously devastated. Poldark is actually a series of books written by Winston Graham way back starting in the 1940’s. This is the second time it’s been made into a television series, the first time was back in the 70’s. I’m tempted to start reading the books because I know they go into more detail that the tv show is able to. Maybe I’ll read them in the summer when I find it easier to dive into a good book.
FAVORITE PODCASTS
One of my most popular posts on the blog is my favorite podcasts post. I’ve thought of doing a part two to that post but we’ll see. I’m always trying out new podcasts. For now I want to share a couple that I’m loving at the moment. I have so many I’d love to share but let’s start with Masterpiece Studio and Anna Faris is Unqualified.
Speaking of Poldark and Victoria which I shared in my January Favorites post…I found this Masterpiece Studio Podcast and have been binge listening to all of the interviews with the actors from my favorite shows! I’m a total geek in that way but I love it! If you like to dive in deeper to all things Masterpiece then you’ll love this podcast too. It’s not so much a recap show as it is a show that takes us inside some of the behind the scenes of the shows and interviewing the actors.
I particularly like when the host interviews the writer/creator of Victoria and they talk about fact or fiction. The inner history nerd in me really likes to know what really happened. : )
I discovered this podcast several months ago, Kelly Ripa went on the show and I gave it a listen for that episode and then I binge listened to all of the celebs whose names I recognized! Next thing I knew I was a fan of the Unqualified podcast by Anna Faris and subscribed. Now I will go ahead and say the podcast is not PG, so bare that in mind but I still like it. The show is Anna and her producer Sim and they interview celebrities. Some I know and many I don’t. After the interview they call her dear listeners who have written in for advice and I think that may be my favorite part of the show. They recently split up the show to have the celeb interviews on Tuesdays and the callers on Thursdays. Same show just split up. If you give it a listen I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments.
FAVORITE APP
I’ve known about the Starbucks app for a long time. I just never used it. When I lived in Greenville I didn’t see the point. Sure we had a few Starbucks locations, but I didn’t frequent them that often because they weren’t convenient to me. Now that I live in Raleigh there’s a Starbucks on almost every other corner. I don’t drink it too often but sometimes it’s needed. Like when I work overtime on a Saturday morning and need espresso in my life!
Over the holidays I got a Starbucks gift card from my mom’s Left – Right game. I decided that I would use the card to register on the app. Now from time to time I’ll load money onto my card in the app. I never have to use the physical card because it’s on the app. I’m not that adventurous with my coffee so I have the coffees I drink already in the app as my favorites and the locations I frequent the most. When I’m about 5-7 minutes away from Starbucks I order in the app, it takes the money from the card, I drive thru tell them I’m here to pick up my order, I get it and I’m in and out in less than a minute! It’s genius! Absolutely one of the best apps I’ve ever used!
I used to loathe going to Starbucks because it took so long to order and get served regardless of whether I was in drive thru or inside. Now I don’t have that issue anymore. Not to mention, each time I buy something I get points and those points add up for me to get free things. You know I love free!
And now for the giveaway…to share the love of the Starbucks app! I’m giving away a $10 Starbucks gift card! Have a coffee on me : ) Entering the giveaway is easy…simply sign up for my newsletter below and that’s it. Super simple! Just a little something to thank you for reading my blog.
