You ever have one of those days where NOTHING is going your way??? UGHHHH!!! Me too.
Today is one of those days.
I woke up earlier than expected. I made a match up list to go grocery shopping with last night. Because of our snow and ice situation, I wasn’t going to go first thing as I usually would. I would go later in the morning.
DH has had the convenience of going to a barbershop right across the street from us for the past couple of years. The barber, however, has had a medical issue and is recovering so to say DH was wolfin (oldschool throwback) would be a huge understatement. So he said he would get up early to go to the barbershop. Key word is he said.
Because he had to wait for a long time, I had to take the kids with me to the stores.
MISTAKE #1
It never fails. If I take the kids with me grocery shopping I will mess up somewhere along the line. Whether it’s me forgetting to get something, or forgetting to use a coupon, or picking up something because they’re with me, or not reading my coupon correctly…all of these things are bound to happen. One thing isn’t such a big deal…but when all of the above happen….it spells disaster.
AKA: THE STORY OF MY LIFE
So that’s what happened…
Harris Teeter was my first stop…wayyy too many people were there + many parking spots were used for the snow mountains = me being frustrated before I even get into the store.
Why does my 8 year old act like she’s 4 sometimes? Why is it ALWAYS when we’re at the grocery store???
I won’t do it anymore.
I get back to the car and realize as I’m headed to Walmart…I forgot more than 1 item off of my list. UgH!!!
I circled the Walmart parking lot more times than I care to count. I really needed a Xanax at this point. It was so bad that I just said EFF it and left. I’m sooo glad I don’t live like an hour away from town! lol
So now that I’m over Walmart, I decided to head home.
I didn’t wanna hear DH’s mouth about why I didn’t get everything in one trip…so I took a deep breathe and decided I’ll stop by Food Lion on the way home. It was on my list of places to go. That brings me to…
MISTAKE # 2
If you have more than 2 stores to go to… DON’T take your kids with you!!!
Next to Food Lion is a Chinese Restaurant. I said to the kids, let’s go in there first to order and then go to Food Lion.
Here goes the whining…”I don’t want Chinese Food! I don’t like it!” OMG That’s my 8 year old. What do you like??? Pizza, nuggets and fries, oh and waffles. Well I’m over that. I’m tired of trying to negotiate. I ended up ordering the Chinese anyway. Jordan and I split it and I made Miss Difficult to Please some noodles when we got home.
Food Lion, just like Harris Teeter, had wayyyy too many people there. UGHHHH
At this point I really had all that I could take.
We go home.
I did end up going back out later. I wanted to go by myself. I ended up taking one child after a huge debate.
So I went to the Walmart closer to me. I had a handful of items I needed and I didn’t want to go out first thing in the morning tomorrow. And as usual with Walmart…I overspend and I always feel rushed at checkout…so it means I forget to use my coupons.
The worst I tell you.
Leaving Walmart I had to go to Walgreens on my way home. They had milk on sale. They didn’t have my milk. Which is exactly why I do my shopping in the morning. Like all of the whole milk was gone. I drink skim milk or 2% without any issue but DH swears up and down he can’t do anything other than whole milk. He’ll be alright.
Lemme help you avoid MISTAKE #1 AND #2 with a few tips for you and me! lol
- IF AT ALL POSSIBLE SHOP WITHOUT YOUR KIDS. EVEN IF YOU HAVE TEENS, THEY WILL BE A DISTRACTION.
- DON’T SHOP DURING PEAK TIMES (MIDDAY ON A WEEKEND OR FROM 4-7 ON A WEEKNIGHT) GO EARLY MORNING OR LATE AT NIGHT
- DON’T BE RUSHED. TAKE YOUR TIME BEFORE GOING TO THE CHECKOUT AREA REVIEWING YOUR LIST, YOUR CART AND YOUR COUPONS.
- KEEP THE NUMBER OF STORES LOW IF YOU DO HAVE TO HAVE A LIL MONSTER WITH YOU.
